Wandering Stars - About Our Seventy-two Ingredients

About Our 72 Ingredients

Handcrafted by Shane Clayton at his Wandering Stars Cottage, all of ‘The Egyptian’ anointing oils and incense products are based on his ongoing research into the archaeological record of the ancient Egyptian temple/funerary practices and mysteries. He uses organic botanicals whenever possible taking great care for value, quality, and sustainability, purchased in small amounts to ensure freshness. Wild-harvested product availability is prone to shortages, especially high-demand items like Myrrh resin and Hojary Frankincense (B. sacra var.), so you can expect unavoidable variations, price fluctuations, and out-of-stock items from time to time in the Sacred Scents Store.

Our rare plant resins, oils, bark, and roots are mostly imported from Mediterranean countries, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Asia, with some sustainably grown or collected locally in Northern California, Utah, and Nevada. Each one has its particular benefits and applications. No synthetic ingredients are used, with no dyes except natural red alkanet root in our two unguents. While many of the ingredients are well known or at least familiar to contemporary herbalists, skin and hair care specialists, and aromatherapists, there are some guaranteed surprises as well!

All of the oils and incense mixtures offered here are formulated according to the Egyptian temple or tomb writings and the latest archaeological and Egyptological research. Many of these ingredients have clinically proven health benefits, and a few are addressed in separate “About” articles, hyperlinked to those ingredients listed below. Those marked * are available for sale. Please E-mail me for pricing and quantities of those marked * that are not included in our Sacred Scents Store.
