Shane Clayton - A Short Third-Person Bio

Shane was born in a small town in eastern Idaho on March 14, 1954, living intermittently in the Los Angeles area as a child. He grew up mostly in Eastern Idaho, where he forged a lifelong love of the natural world in the nearby forests and deserts - graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1972.

An un-degreed art major and horticulture science minor at ISU and BSU, he wound up making a lifelong career utilizing his artistic eye and love of nature as a landscaper/interior-scaper, a nursery/greenhouse manager and horticulturist, and as a pond and aquarium specialist, managing retail stores in Boise, Seattle, and Sacramento. He started AquaTech Aquariums in 1999 and has operated it for over 25 years, recently semi-retiring.

Shane still happily keeps his arms in saltwater tanks, caring for a longtime client/friend’s nine gorgeous marine reef aquariums whose growing live coral cuttings regularly find their way into the local trade. He still has a 5-gallon metal framed aquarium given to him as a child with a single red betta fish. He has also been singing and playing in bands since 1978 and still enjoys performing now and then locally with musician friends as “Shane Montane.”

Shane has been an avid practitioner of a form of Western Esoterism since the mid-70s, and after an experience at the touring Tutankhamun exhibit in Seattle in 1978 he became deeply fascinated by ancient Egyptian history and culture. This interest culminated with a solo visit to Egypt exactly 40 years later in 2018 with a reunion, as it were, in the old Egyptian Museum before entering their ancient sacred spaces and encountering their many Neteru (divinities or god forms) there.

Inscribed among the fabulous hieroglyphics were the names and recipes for the incense and fragrant anointing oils offered to the Neteru daily and also used in funerary rites - all gorgeously carved into the stone temple walls. Little did he know then how they would soon lead him to start a small online business! Shane tells a fascinating story of how he was first introduced to the ancient Egyptian “Seven Sacred Oils on his first day in Cairo in his “Welcome To Egypt!” article.

Having no luck finding anyone else who has reproduced these recipes, he was inspired to undertake the in-depth research necessary to develop the several formulations now offered for sale at his ‘The Egyptian’ Sacred Scents Store. These exotic ancient Egyptian botanical fragrance mixtures are handcrafted by Shane in Northern California, where he operates Wandering Stars, an interdisciplinary holistic healing practice. Aromatherapy, particularly Egyptian, is an integral element in his work and is supported by several recent clinical studies (see his articles “About Frankincense” and “Egyptian Blue Lotus”). Shane’s extensive horticultural knowledge and experience came into play with his surprisingly obvious identifications of certain previously “elusive” botanical ingredients; therefore his mixtures are unique and proprietary.

In seeking an ongoing holistic realignment and reintegration of the Mind/Body/Spirit complex, Shane utilizes and shares several tried and true methods of what he calls Sacred Science originating from three ancient religious, mystical, philosophical, and esoteric resources: 1) Western traditions of Egypt, Greece, and the Levant, 2) Eastern traditions of India and China, and 3) Shamanic traditions common to various tribes of Indigenous Americans in the so-called New World, particularly Mesoamerica. All of these utilize sacred aromatic resins burned as incense in their rituals or ceremonies.

Wandering Stars was established as a place to share certain of these various healing arts and spiritual practices with open-minded others, no matter what their beliefs may be. For more information see his “About Wandering Stars” page.

Shane enjoys writing about his experiences and discoveries, and several of his informative articles are available on his website at wandering-stars.net.
